If you’ve ever passed through the Bloor street flagship store of Williams-Sonoma on a Saturday afternoon, you may have encountered Chef Donna Dooher hosting her famous cooking demos. This past weekend, Donna spent the afternoon chatting with food enthusiasts while whipping up piles of pancakes and tasty grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato apple relish. Donna was there to promote an event that’s dear to her heart – Eat to the Beat in benefit of Willow takes place October 16 at Roy Thomson Hall.

Tomato Apple Relish

 

INGREDIENTS

4 cups apples

4 cups onions

4 cups tomatoes

2 cups vinegar

3 cups white sugar

2 cups brown sugar

2 tsp salt

1 tsp dry mustard

1/2 tsp cloves

1/2 tsp cinnamon

 

METHOD

 

Place all of the ingredients in a large pot.

Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.

Reduce heat to medium and cook mixture down by 1/3. At this point, you can put the relish into preserving jars or the freezer. Make sure you follow correct preserving practices. bernardin.ca
